Hurricane Lowell slammed into Hawaii's western islands on Saturday, Sept. 12. The storm caused damage on Kauai. Officials there urged visitors to stay away until the island has recovered. The governor of Hawaii sought President Trump for federal assistance. The Hawaii National Guard members assisted with food distribution efforts in Kauai communities after damage from the storm.

Meanwhile, on the college gridiron, the Hawaii team held a lead over New Mexico State at halftime. A surf forecast also was issued for Sunday, September 13.
