Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has withdrawn a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was found guilty of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has pulled back an execution order. A second execution was still scheduled for Tuesday.
The decision came days after a failed execution attempt involving Christa Pike brought new questions over Florida's execution process. The governor gave no immediate public explanation for pulling the warrant for Thompson in particular.
