Meta has consented to hand over up to 18 billion US dollars to resolve lawsuits with US states regarding platform addiction and risks to young users.
The historic agreement concludes legal claims from California and other states focused on adolescent usage issues on platforms owned by the company.
Under the terms of the settlement, Meta also accepted major operational adjustments on Facebook and Instagram. The agreement ends ongoing legal proceedings in the United States involving claims over social media harms to children and teens.
