A powerful earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or damage were reported yet. In California, a smaller 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the previous day. Strong aftershocks keep hitting Venezuela after the country’s latest strong quakes. A large number of people remain trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams operate around the clock. PAHO says hospitals need help now to cope with additional crises.
