An Australian Federal Police detective in Canberra was handed a prison sentence following false statements regarding court evidence.

The long-serving investigator spent decades locking up criminals in prison. He engaged in what was called a fatal career falsehood and a serious lapse in judgment after fabricating details regarding court evidence.

Today the Canberra detective must serve jail time near the prisoners he previously investigated. The Australian Federal Police officer was ordered to jail after spending decades building cases against offenders and sending them to prison prior to his conviction for committing perjury.
